The two measurements differ greatly because EC/LAC Bext has units of 1/Mm and BABS has units of ng/m3. BABS was converted to a concentration by using an absorption efficiency of 10 m2/g. However, at this time the BABS measurement should not be used and was not suppose to be available from the database. We are investigating some inconsistencies between the Laser Integrating Plate Method (LIPM) for measuring BABS used prior to spring of 1994 and the Hybrid Integrating Plate/Sphere Analysis (HIPS) currently used. We will be making the current BABS data available in the coming months.
