The IMPROVE program was initiated in 1985 to create an extensive long term air quality monitoring program to establish the current visibility conditions, track changes in visibility, and determine the causal mechanisms for the visibility impairment in National Parks and Wilderness Areas. The IMPROVE website provides access to the IMPROVE monitoring data resources as well as educational material on the science of visibility and regulations.
