Browser Compatibility and VIEWS
We realize that our
visitors have different preferences and requirements regarding the type
of Internet browser they use, so the goal of VIEWS is to provide support
for as many different browsers types and versions as feasible. There are
some inherent challenges in fully meeting this goal, however, given the
nature of some of the tools we offer and the type of environment we
would like to provide, so please take a moment to familiarize yourself
with some of the issues regarding browser compatibility that you might
encounter on VIEWS. |

Known Issues
The following problems and issues related to browser compatibility have been
noted by VIEWS developers and users:
|
 |
Pages with certain graphical tools may not
display correctly in older browsers, especially early versions of
Netscape. Some of our graphical tools take advantage of relatively new
technology, and VIEWS developers have not had a chance to ensure full
compatibility with certain early browsers. |
 |
HTML tables may display in a very visually
unappealing way in older browsers, causing a sometimes disjointed and
disorganized appearance on some pages. |
 |
Background colors and images may not
appear correctly. Early browsers had limited support for Cascading Style
Sheets and other formatting techniques, so certain pages may not look as
appealing depending on their use of visual formatting techniques. |
 |
Certain pages may display very slowly, or
not at all, in older browsers. Early browser technology was sometimes
very limited in how it processed web pages, and very complicated pages
may cause noticeable delays. Also, certain scripting techniques are not
fully compatible with early browsers, and so may cause problems of
varying types, including slow loading and browser "hanging". |
|
| |
Browser Version
Regardless of the brand of browser you choose, we recommend that you always
keep up to date with the most currently available (and stable) version.
Browser vendors are constantly improving their products to take advantage of
the latest web technologies and offer you the most problem-free browsing
experience. Most browser updates are free and readily available as well as
easy to install, so please take advantage of this convenience and upgrade
your browser periodically. |
| |
Browser Type
In general, VIEWS supports both Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator
(or Navigator). We've been able to do very limited testing with alternative
brands, such as Opera or SlimBrowser, but know that many visitors have
successfully used these browsers to explore VIEWS. |
| |
Our Testing Strategy
As new features and functionality are added to VIEWS, we test our changes
first in the most current versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape. When
we're satisfied with the results, we then test our changes in earlier
versions of each browser, working our way back through successive versions
from latest to earliest. This can be a very time consuming process,
especially for older browsers, so we prefer to release new features as soon
as they have been tested with the most current browser versions, testing
with older versions as time and resources permit. As a result, you may
experience occasional problems with older browsers until we have had a
chance to fully test with these versions. In each case, our goal is to make
new functionality available as soon as possible for those users who are able
to take advantage of it. We appreciate your understanding and patience, and
are committed to making VIEWS compatible with a large percentage of existing
browsers. |

Please Help Us
If you have a recent version of Internet Explorer or Netscape and are still
experiencing problems, please let us know. We
depend on your feedback and suggestions for making your experience on VIEWS
as useful and enjoyable as possible. Thanks! |
