SITE HISTORY

 

 

Site Location:               The monitoring site was located in west central California, approximately 65 kilometers from the coast in the Gabilan Mountain Range, and on the western side of the San Joaquin Valley.

 

 

Photographic Station:    The camera was located on the North Chalone Peak Fire Lookout, 5.3 kilometers south of the Bear Gulch Visitor Center on the Chalone Peak Trail.  The camera viewed both Scout Peak and Hawkins Peak (~2°), 2.5 km.

 

 

Operational Period:       San Benito Mountain Vista 08/15/86 – 03/27/88

Scout Peak/Hawkins Peak Vista 03/27/88 – 01/14/95

                                   

 

Data Collection:            Photographs were taken at 09:00, 12:00, and 15:00 daily.  Approximately 8,500 35mm-color slides of the Scout Peak/Hawkins Peak Vista were reviewed to develop the provided historical photographic archive.
