SITE HISTORY

 

 

Site Location:               The monitoring site was located in northern California, approximately 45 kilometers east of Redding on State Highway 44.

 

 

Photographic Station:    The original camera station, which was installed in 1987 and took photographs of Butte Mountain, was located just north of Huckleberry Lake on the slope of Brokeoff Mountain, approximately 23 kilometers northeast of the Lassen Winter Sports Area.

 

                                    In 1993 the camera station was relocated near the south entrance to the park at the Lassen Winter Sports Area, just east of the Inskip Hill Lookout.  This station took photographs of Lassen Peak (~60°), 32.7 km.

 

 

Operational Period:       Butte Mountain Vista 06/02/87 – 08/16/93

                                    Lassen Peak Vista 12/16/93 – 04/10/95

 

 

Data Collection:            Photographs were taken at 09:00, 12:00, and 15:00 daily.  Approximately 1,300 35mm-color slides of the Lassen Peak Vista were reviewed to develop the provided historical photographic archive.
