SITE HISTORY

Site Location: The monitoring site was located in the Monongahela National Forest in northeastern West Virginia, approximately 8 kilometers northeast of Parsons.

Photographic Station: The camera was installed at the Bell Knob Lookout Tower in 1987 and viewed Weiss Knob (~266°), 9.3 km until November 1988. To improve visibility target criteria, the camera vista changed in April 1989 to Rich Mountain, (~249°), 20.2 km, though the site location remained constant.

Operational Period: Weiss Knob Vista 04/21/87 – 11/18/88

Rich Mountain Vista 04/19/89 – 11/30/94

Data Collection: Photographs were taken at 09:00, 12:00, and 15:00 daily. Approximately 4,800 35mm-color slides of the Rich Mountain Vista were reviewed to develop the provided historical photographic archive.
