SITE HISTORY

Site Location: The monitoring site is located on Florida’s west coast near the towns of Homosassa Springs and Crystal River, approximately 100 kilometers north of Saint Petersburg. Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge is accessible only by boat.

Photographic Station: The camera is located on the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters tower, south of the headquarters building on the western edge of the refuge and views Chassahowitzka Point (~273°), 16.0 km.

Operational Period: Chassahowitzka Point Vista 04/19/95 – present

Data Collection: Photographs are taken at 09:00, 12:00, and 15:00 daily. Approximately 4,000 35mm-color slides of the Chassahowitzka Point Vista were reviewed to develop the provided historical photographic archive.
