UNC/CIRA NASA ROSES 2007 Project - Enhancing VIEWS/TSS with NASA Satellite Data

NASA
In 2007, the Institute for the Environment at UNC Chapel Hill collaborated with the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) to submit a proposal in respsonse to a NASA Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) solicitation. The proposal was awarded in early 2008 and is titled "Improving an Air Quality Decision Support System through the Integration of Satellite Data with Ground-based, Modeled, and Emissions Data". The project will incorporate remote sensing data from NASA satellite missions CALIPSO, Aura, Terra and Aqua into the integrated decision support system VIEWS/TSS to better characterize pollutants and their sources and facilitate a more thorough and efficient evaluation of comprehensive three-dimensional air quality models such as the EPA Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model used in air quality planning.
